On November 11, hundreds of High Desert citizens, veterans and their families gathered for a Veteran’s Day observance at the Mountain View Memorial Park in Barstow. During the event, Maj. Gen. Theodore D. Martin, commanding general of the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Barstow Mayor Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre, Col. Michael L. Scalise, commanding officer of Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, and Col. Jonathan P. Braga, commanding officer of NTC Army Garrison, gave their remarks about Veteran’s Day. The color guard from MCLB Barstow presented colors to open the ceremony. Following the ceremony, the crowd and the color guard visited the Veterans Home of California in Barstow for another observance and a lunch with fellow veterans.
