Col. Michael L. Scalise, base commander for Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, Calif., rides in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif., January 2013 with the MCLB Barstow Mounted Color Guard. Learning to ride horses and participating in the Marine Corps' only Mounted Color Guard is one of Col. Scalise's favorite memories as he relinquishes command of the base on July 1 to Col. Sekou S. Karega and moves on to Camp Lejeune, N.C., to assume duties as the G-4 for Marine Corps Installations East at the general staff level.
