Cpl. Zachery J. Mehrer, youngest Marine present at age 21, accepts a ceremonial piece of cake from the oldest Marine present, 95-year-old Guy "Dean" Smith, during a cake-cutting ceremony observing the Marine Corps' 240th Birthday held at the Veterans Home of California-Barstow, Nov. 4. Mehrer, adjutant clerk for MLCB Barstow, enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2012. Smith enlisted in 1939 and stayed until 1948, then enlisted in the Air Force and completed his military career in 1960.
