MCLB Base Sergeant Major Karl Simburger, and Col. Sekou Karega, commanding officer, Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, listen as 95-year-old Guy "Dean" Smith tells them about his time in the Corps, during the 240th Marine Corps Birthday cake-cutting ceremony held at the Veterans Home of California-Barstow, Nov. 4. Smith was recognized as the oldest Marine present. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1939 and was honorably discharged in 1948.
