The next generation combat helicopter, the Apache Block III, seems to leap off the runway at the Barstow-Daggett Army Airfield during a shakeout flight Feb. 29. The Army is testing the combat capabilities of the Apache at the nearby National Training Center and parking the lethal birds at the airfield. The soldiers from Fort Riley, Kan., conducting the real world testing are eating at the Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow Family Restaurant for the next 90 days.
