Barrett, the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps after Mark's reenlistment ceremony held April 23 at the Maj. Gen. James L. Day Conference Center aboard base. Barrett was present for the ceremony because of a scheduled stop at the base to tour the installation and meet with Marines stationed there.

Marine Corps’ top enlisted visits Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow

Sergeant Major Micheal P. Barrett, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, made his first visit ever to Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow recently.

The Niagara Falls, N.Y., native assumed his current post as the 17th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps on June 9, 2011.

Barrett was deployed to the Middle East during the Gulf War in 1987, twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in March 2010.

The versatile warrior also was assigned to Scout Sniper Instructor School, Quantico, Va., as the Chief Instructor in January 1995.

His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with combat “V” and gold star, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat “V” and three gold stars, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars, Combat Action Ribbon with gold star, and the Presidential Service Badge.
