Commanding Officer hosts Town Hall Meeting

21 Dec 2012 | Sgt. Shannon E. Yount Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow

Residents and employees of Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow were invited to attend, voice their opinions and hear the response from base officials during the first town hall meeting hosted by Col. Michael L. Scalise at the Maj. Gen. James L. Day Conference Center here, Dec. 18.

The focus of the meeting was about improving life on the installation for service members aboard the base. Topics such as the base thrift store, the installation of the new screening system called Rapid Gate, and improvements to base housing were discussed.

Scalise explained how MCLB Barstow recently adopted Rapid Gate, a new security system for all access control points on the installation, which the Marine Corps Police Department will start using at the beginning of 2013.

Another topic discussed during the meeting was about the landscape in base housing. Though it is up to each resident, base housing is providing options for residents to change the landscape of their yard. For more information about base housing and landscape please contact the housing office at (760) 577-6707.

This was not only an opportunity for the commanding officer to inform base employees and residents about upcoming changes, but it was an opportunity for those in attendance to voice their concerns.

One audience member wanted to know if there were any procedures on how to get off-base food delivery on base. Scalise informed the audience that there is a procedure in place, and if they want delivery, the service member or base employee would have to call the desk sergeant and provide the proper information on the who, what, and where, pertaining to the delivery. When the delivery driver arrives at the gate, Scalise explained, MCPD will check that the driver has a valid license, car insurance and is not a felon. If the individual’s information checks out, the sentry will allow the driver on base.
