The BOLTS test bench is the only one of its kind and helps ensure that M777 howitzers going out to the war-fighters in the field are fully operational.

By design the M777 scavenge manifold and cylinder was engineered to allow a small amount of weeping, but this test bench allows for testing and repair to ensure optimal functioning.

Karega, designating him as the new base sergeant major, during a Relief and Appointment cermony held on MCLB Barstow, March 3. Sgt. Maj. Martinez took over the position from Sgt. Maj. Karl D. Simburger who has been reassigned as the sergeant major for the Wounded Warrior Regiment, located in Quantico, Va.

Sgt. Justin P. Mears, Marine Corps Exchange Noncommissioned Officer, thanks the Barstow Are Chamber of Commerce, City of Barstow, and his leadership at MLB Barstow for recognizing him as the Marine of the Year for Fiscal Year 2015, Feb. 27, during the 35th Annual City of Barstow Awards Banquet. During FY'15 the 29-year-old native of Wilmington, Del, captured NCO of the Quarter three times, became a Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor, competed in and won the High Intensity Tactical Training competition on MCB Barstow, and finish fourth overall in the Corps-wide competition held at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Once done with the equipment, 3rd Cav Soldiers will clean the equipment and ensure that they return it in even better condition than when they received it.

“ECS 171 is attached to 63rd RSC (Regional Support Command) which is in Mountain View,” said Hector Perez, site manager. “It’s all under the United States Army Reserve Command.”
“Units sent to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., typically get most of their equipment from NTC and ECS 171 provides as much as we are able,” explained Perez. “The rest is transported in from their home unit.” “It’s like a rental,” said Perez. “Units pick up what they need then return it in ‘as good or better condition’ when they’re finished.”
