Mears, Marine Corps Exchange Noncommissioned Officer, thanks the Barstow Are Chamber of Commerce, City of Barstow, and his leadership at MLB Barstow for recognizing him as the Marine of the Year for Fiscal Year 2015, Feb. 27, during the 35th Annual City of Barstow Awards Banquet. During FY'15 the 29-year-old native of Wilmington, Del, captured NCO of the Quarter three times, became a Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor, competed in and won the High Intensity Tactical Training competition on MCB Barstow, and finish fourth overall in the Corps-wide competition held at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

“ECS 171 is attached to 63rd RSC (Regional Support Command) which is in Mountain View,” said Hector Perez, site manager. “It’s all under the United States Army Reserve Command.” “Units sent to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., typically get most of their equipment from NTC and ECS 171 provides as much as we are able,” explained Perez. “The rest is transported in from their home unit.” “It’s like a rental,” said Perez. “Units pick up what they need then return it in ‘as good or better condition’ when they’re finished.”
